Reporting to the Manager, Climate Change and Energy Conservation is responsible for providing strategic development and overall management of a Sustainable Building Program; overseeing project management and engineering of energy retrofits and high performance new building design in accordance with Regional objectives; providing technical leadership in the design of building systems and development of Regional standards; and supporting Corporate energy projects involving Regional buildings.
•Successful completion of a University Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline from an accredited university.
•Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with the Professional Engineers Ontario.
•Minimum five (5) years progressive experience (inclusive of EIT experience) in the engineering, planning and design of facilities and office buildings.
•Must be a LEED Accredited Professional with the Canada Green Building Council in one of the following specialties, Building Design and Construction, Operation and Maintenance and/or Interior Design and Construction.
•Knowledge demonstrated through training and/or application in Passive House Standard.
•Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
•Proven experience in a related field with responsibilities for energy-savings identification, energy technology operation and assessment, performance measurement and program implementation, and capital budgeting and financing principles.
•Demonstrated knowledge of North American codes, regulations and design standards, and municipal purchasing policies and contract administration.
•Knowledge of commercial and industrial building design/construction, and complex mechanical and electrical building systems.
•Knowledge of building energy simulation programs, utility billing and analysis including RETScreen.
•Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including communication, innovation, teamwork and collaboration, and personal ownership.
•Strong project management and report writing skills and to synthesize technical data and prepare technical reports for diverse audiences.
•Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications.
•Ability to interpret conceptual and schematic construction drawings, narratives and outlines.
•Demonstrated ability to identify issues and recommend innovative solutions.
•Ability to negotiate/facilitate and present information to varied audiences.
•Ability to work outside regular business hours as required.
