Reporting to the Supervisor Community Programs & Public Education and under the guidance of the Lead Paramedic, is responsible to assist with community/public education programs and projects; assisting with operational program requirements; supporting community events and public education activities; assisting with scheduling of events; and actively involved in providing information to the general public, community organizations and members of the community; delivering presentations to various age groups; and acting as a representative of York Region Paramedic Services.
•Presents educational materials and information engaging with the members of the community, including a broad range of age groups at events and designated locations.
•Assists in the development and preparation of training materials, including lesson plans with identified learning objectives, and any other materials needed for presentation to classes; ensures availability of learning resources.
•Represents York Region Paramedic Services delivering information to participants at the Community Safety Village at Bruce’s Mills, including classroom instruction to children ages 6-12 years.
•Tracks program resources required for events and follows up on outstanding items throughout the planning and organization phases through to completion of the event.
•Monitors materials required; orders stock replacements and provides documentation for approvals.
•Ensures supplies and resources are available for community events.
•Evaluates program initiatives and provides feedback on outcomes of events and programs.
•Makes recommendations to support on-going quality improvements to services provided to the public at various events.
•Liaises with the users of the village, volunteers, Paramedic Services and with personnel from school boards and representatives from independent schools, with respect to program evaluation and utilization of the Village; updates and modifies programs, as necessary.
•Establishes and maintains liaison with a community partners to ensure program promotion and effective service delivery; collaborates and works with local partners to deliver services.
•Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives.
•May occasionally be required to respond to emergency situations outside of normal business hours, as related to the Departmental Emergency Plan.
•Successful completion of a College Diploma in Paramedicine, Education, Communication, Public Relations or related field, or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Paramedic and 1 year teaching experience or experience as a Public Educator.
•Knowledge and demonstrated ability in sound teaching/learning strategies, methods and delivery techniques based on learner styles/needs.
•Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license free of serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act.
