Position Purpose

Reporting to the Supervisor, Marketing and Communications is responsible for assisting staff in developing and leading the implementation of communication strategies that help promote and protect the image of the Branch and its projects; supporting management communications response to emerging issues; identifying strategic communications opportunities; supporting internal and external communications that contribute to the effectiveness of programs and projects; liaising with public, community groups, local municipalities and stakeholders and participating, promoting and coordinating project engagement activities such as community events, seminars, workshops and Public Information Centres.

Major Responsibilities

•Assists staff to develop and execute effective communication plans and strategies that help promote and protect the image of the Branch and its projects.
•Works with staff to provide a coordinated and consistent approach in identifying opportunities for the Branch, to proactively promote its programs and services and respond to emerging issues.
•Works with local municipalities, contractors, consultants, businesses, residents, community groups, agencies and other stakeholders to coordinate public engagement activities.
•Takes lead role for the Branch and assists Branch, Department and Corporate Communications staff in the development and implementation of the Branch’s social media initiatives.
•Provides support to staff on social media content and participation.
•Acts as Branch social media “Site Moderator”.
•Liaises with public, contractors, local municipalities, community groups and other stakeholders as it relates to Branch communications programs and/or services.
•Researches and provides input to briefing notes, presentations and reports for management and senior staff.
•Monitors and measures print and broadcast media for emerging issues to determine the impact of Branch statements or communications.
•Evaluates the effectiveness of communication programs and services to ensure continuous improvement.
•Performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with Branch and Department objectives

Qualifications

•Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Journalism, Communications, Media, Marketing, Business Administration or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Minimum three (3) years experience’ in the design and delivery of communication services and strategies, including the development of communication initiatives to assist both print and broadcast media.
•Demonstrated experience in the coordination of events and public engagement, communication and/or workshop facilitation.
•Demonstrated knowledge of communications practices media and social media applications..
•Understanding of the processes of various levels of government, with particular emphasis on regional and municipal government.
•Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service, communication, team work, initiative/self management, accountability, flexibility and adaptability.
