Health Centre Operations and Flow
Evenings, Weekends, Statutory Holidays and On-Call Nights
$39.927 – $54.743 hourly
As an integral member of the Clinical Services team, the After Hours Supervisor, Operations and Flow provides exemplary leadership and decision-making in support patient care, access, and transitions during non-business hours (evenings, on-call nights, statutory holidays and weekends). This role will ensure that Health Centre performance and flow goals and objectives are met while creating an environment that supports our Mission, Vision, and Values . In consultation with the Director on Call and leadership team, this role will make strategic decisions around bed utilization and clinical care adhering to principles of fiscal responsibility and access to care. assign and support clinical and non-clinical staff as necessary; ensure the appropriate delivery of care utilizing evidence based practice as a basis for clinical and administrative system decisions; ensuring effective communication and acting as a consultant to internal/external health care professionals within/outside the Hospital setting and to family/community members; performing cross-functional and other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned and/or required.
•Manage bed flow and coordinate the care, given by all staff, in order to meet the needs of patients and families (e.g., ideal patient flow; appropriate staffing levels (e.g., OR Call-in Policy)
•Act as a supportive resource by attending to urgent / crisis situations (e.g., Emergency Codes)
•Maintain a strong line of communication with appropriate Patient care managers/Directors for clinical and non-clinical issues; including the provision of shift-based documentation to ensure continuity
•Ensure compliance with all legislated requirements, professional, and accreditation standards for care and safety
•Manage assigned projects and participate on committees
•Champion health/safety and infection control practices in the workplace
•Liaise with external agencies, community partners, and the general public as necessary
1.Regulated Health Professional, in good standing with associated regulatory body.
2.BScN Degree required. Masters degree an asset.
3.Minimum three (3) years recent experience in an acute medical or hospital setting
4.Minimum two (2) years related acute hospital nursing leadership experience, preferably in a hospital supervisory/managerial capacity
5.Current BLS/CPR Certification
6.Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
7.Ability to be flexible and adapt to change in a rapidly changing work environment
8.Demonstrated ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions, exercise sound judgement and use considerable initiative.
9.Additional coursework related to LEAN and/or various facets of management an asset
10.Knowledge of legislation provisions which impact on work performed (i.e. Employment Standards Act; Occupational Health and Safety Act etc.)
11.Knowledge and familiarity with staff scheduling, workload measurement, budgets, labour relations and hospital operations preferred.
12.Ability to engage and support all hospital staff in carrying out their roles and responsibilities.
13.Excellent time management with demonstrated ability to coordinate numerous and diverse activities, organizing and prioritizing appropriately to meet demands and expectations.
14.Savvy change facilitator with a proven track record of implementing effective and sustainable change initiatives while building effective teams.
15.Highly developed critical thinking skills and ability to conceptualize and analyse problems, make critical decisions and work without supervision and in a dynamic fashion in order to meet hospital needs.
16.Demonstrated commitment to patient and family centred principles and care
17.Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite and Meditech) as well as the ability and willingness to learn software programs relating to the role.
