With a budget of over $150 million and more than 1000 sworn and civilian members, the Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) requires a temporary Business Intelligence Analyst-Developer. The WRPS delivers exceptional police services to more than 575,000 residents. As the Business Intelligence Analyst Developer
•Analyze existing software and resources to monitor data quality, issue reports on performance management, and develop business intelligence capabilities;
•Correct specific system problems by identifying and correcting the problematic software/data;
•Investigate, design, and build interfaces between software applications to address analytical requirements;
•Monitor data quality by establishing business rules, analyzing errors and exceptions, and regularly reporting on the results;
•Perform detailed analysis including: data conversion analysis, data flow modelling and business requirements collection for system integration projects;
•Provide technical expertise and advice regarding computer systems to management and analyze new system proposals to determine the impact on the current system including integration details;
•Maintain current knowledge and ongoing professional development of standard computer languages, coding methods and operational requirements, including standardized business practices; and
•Other related duties as assigned.
•Knowledge of Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Management or a related field;
•Knowledge of systems analysis and database design, normally obtained through previous programming experience analyzing large complex databases or through post-secondary education in Computer Science or other related field;
•Knowledge of system interfacing, troubleshooting, documenting and training methods to implement and maintain interfaces with other systems;
•Advanced skills working with databases to collect and analyze data, and present visually in a business intelligence framework; and
•Ability to participate as an effective team member and to support and project values compatible with the organization.
•A strong self-starter with the ability to work under minimal supervision;
•Able to grasp and articulate complex situations and issues to synthesize information and develop appropriate recommendations;
•Well versed in developing business intelligence tools and programming with a business intelligence lens;
•An excellent communicator with the ability to assess user needs and coach personnel;
•Innovative and able to work collaboratively within a dynamic and progressive team;
•Comfortable using and applying current and up-to-date technology and business intelligence tools and practices;
•Able to meet police security clearance requirements and maintain confidentiality; and
•Able to meet the testing requirements for the position.
