Position Summary

The Integrated Community Access Program is seeking a Mental Health Nurse to provide mental health services to individuals with Complex Psychiatric Disorders which can include Anxiety and Mood Disorders. As a key member of the team, you will provide clinical assessment and treatment, consultative and educational services to clients, families, community providers, referral sources and other community partners.  You will have demonstrated initiative and creative approaches to challenging situations and will be willing to work collaboratively within a specialized evidence-based service.  You will have formal training in CBT and preferably IPT, with experience in working with clients who have complex issues such as Major Depressive Disorder, Anxiety and Bi-polar Disorder.  You will work actively with our referral sources and community partners and will provide individual and group counseling, case management, community outreach, consultation and education services.

Qualifications Required and Preferred

• A current certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario, (BSc N preferred)
• Current CPR - Health Care Provider (HCP) is required
• CNA certification in psychiatric/mental health nursing is an asset
• Demonstrated knowledge of College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) Standards of Practice and commitment to maintaining reflective practice standards as described by the CNO is required
• Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian Standards for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing
• Demonstrated knowledge in CBT, IPT and DBT modalities is required
• Experience delivery CBT based interventions and psychotherapy
• 3-5 years psychiatric experience in a mental health facility or service is desirable
• 3-5 years Community-based mental health experience is required
• Demonstrated knowledge of Mental Health, and relevant policies and legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and PHIPA is required.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Demonstrated advanced knowledge of psychotropic medication.
• Demonstrated competence in individual and group programming skills.
• Training and/or experience in facilitating psychoeducational groups
• Experience with presentations is an asset.
• The candidate will have demonstrated excellent interpersonal and effective oral/written communication skills.
• The ability to work with clients of diverse ethno racial and cultural backgrounds and proficiency in a second language would be considered an asset.
• Registered with the RNAO in good standing is preferred
• Ability to perform the physical demands of the position
• Valid driver’s licence; light travel may be required.
• Variable hours may be required due to patient demand
