To support us on our journey, Sinai Health is looking for a Senior Registered Respiratory Therapist to support our Respiratory Therapy department at our Mount Sinai Hospital Campus.

If you have excellent clinical skills and want to grow clinically and professionally, this is the department for you! You will work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Adult Intensive Care Unit, Operating Room, Emergency Department and Medical Surgical Wards.

In the ICU, Respiratory Therapy is responsible for difficult airway management, mechanical ventilation (non-invasive, conventional, high frequency oscillation, using lung protective strategies), nitric oxide/specialty gas therapies, patient transport, open bedside tracheostomy assistance, bronchoscopy assistance, radial arterial line insertion, hemodynamic monitoring, resuscitation, and intubation/extubation. In the OR, Room Respiratory Therapy team is responsible for assisting the Anesthesiologists. This comprehensive role includes all hemodynamic monitoring, checking and administering blood/blood products, peripheral line insertion (arterial and venous), intubations/extubations, topicalizing upper airway, difficult airways, post-operative ventilation, and teaching.

In the Emergency Department, Respiratory Therapy responsibilities include, airway management and ventilation, patient transport and assistance with procedural sedation.

On the Medical/Surgical wards, Registered Respiratory Therapists carry a Critical Care Response Team pager and are an integral member of the rapid response team. Other Respiratory Therapy responsibilities include non-invasive ventilation in our Surgical Step-Down Unit and Cardiac Care Unit, blood gases, arterial line insertion and monitoring as well as patient education, spirometry and home oxygen assessment. You will have a role in Respiratory Therapy student education, physician teaching and research.

In the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Respiratory Therapy is responsible for airway management, intubation/extubation, hemodynamic monitoring, mechanical ventilation (conventional, high frequency oscillation, jet ventilation, and non-invasive), nitric oxide delivery, surfactant instillation, arterial punctures, arterial line insertion, resuscitation, patient transport, research and resident teaching. Core Neonatal Unit Registered Respiratory Therapists are also assigned to the Case room 24 hours per day and work with Neonatology, Anaesthesia and Nursing to provide care to the newborn and mother.

Job Requirements
  • Current certificate of registration, in good standing, from The College of Respiratory Therapist of Ontario (CRTO)
  • Successful completion of the CBRC exam
  • Graduate from a recognized school of Respiratory Therapy
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a level 3 NICU preferred
  • Current certification in NRP
  • Knowledge and Experience with current practices in neonatal respiratory care including
    • Non-invasive and invasive lung protective strategies
    • Nitric oxide therapy
    • Experience with high frequency oscillation/jet ventilation
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated team player
  • Effective communication skills
  • Experience in protocol driven and RT led research
  • Member of professional associations (preferred)
  • Excellent communication and clinical skills
  • Demonstrated excellent work performance and attendance history
