Job Description

This is a temporary full-time assignment for approximately 12 months.

To support us on our journey, Sinai Health System is looking for a Clinical Coordinator to support our Emergency Department at our Mount Sinai Hospital Campus.

As a member of the Nursing Leadership team, the Clinical Coordinator is responsible for supporting the daily operations in the Emergency Department including program planning, supporting clinical practice and quality improvement activities, and monitoring performance metrics. As a key member of the nursing team, the Clinical Coordinator will collaborate with the Nursing Unit Administrator, CNS and all members of the Emergency Department interprofessional team to participate in and support development and implementation of departmental goals, and a safe workplace culture.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and maintains the philosophy, goals, objectives and standards of the Department of Nursing
  • Contributes to improvements in patient care and safety through supporting the consistent practice of patient care standards and leading the implementation of best practice guidelines in the Emergency Department
  • Participates in the daily operations of the Emergency Department both in collaboration with and in the absence of the NUA through the recognition and management of staffing, public relations, and operational and technological issues that arise.
  • Utilizes electronic systems and performance measurement tools to audit department performance, highlight opportunities for improvement and initiate quality improvement interventions through staff education and system-level changes
  • Monitor and facilitate patient flow through the department in collaboration with the nursing Team Leaders, ED leadership team and community partners
  • Facilitates the review and development of relevant clinical guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe and healthy work environment through the monitoring and trending of safety reports, liaising with Infection Control and undertaking safety and security initiatives
  • Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of quality and safety initiatives
  • Participates in Emergency Department redevelopment planning as needed
  • In collaboration with the Nursing Unit Administrator, participates in Occupational Health and Safety Unit assessments and interventions, and in Quality and Risk Management as it relates to safety reporting and managing patient/family concerns. Supports recommendations stemming from quality reviews and safety reports.  
  • Participates in unit-based committees such as the Unit Council and Renew Sinai committees as needed
  • Supports Team Leader with issues regarding patient flow, patient complaints, risk issues, supply and/or equipment needs
  • Responsible for the maintenance and monitoring of information technology systems that support practice (e.g. clinical documentation and workload measurement systems, including those related to new or existing equipment)
  • Supports improvements in patient care through the application of standards of practice, documentation reviews, and promotion of the  development of critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Collaborates with the Nursing Unit Administrator to ensure fiscally responsible product management and works with staff and others in the implementation of new products and technologies
  • Performs other position related duties as required
Job Requirements

 

  • BScN/BN required; Masters preferred
  • Current certificate of registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • 3-5 years current experience in Adult Emergency
  • Membership in professional nursing organizations and evidence of continuing education
  • Canadian Nurses Association Certification in Emergency (preferred)
  • Previous leadership experience preferred (e.g. formal leadership role, team leader or resource nurse in Emergency setting)
  • Demonstrated competence with clinical/system computer applications (i.e. electronic medical records)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated evidence of mentoring skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer services skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent decision making, problem recognition, problem solving skills, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Commitment to collaborative practice
  • Ability to work effectively and independently under stressful conditions
  • Ability to utilize information technology
  • Demonstrated commitment to Patient Experience, Quality and Safety, Financial Health, and Access and Efficiency
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
