What we need:
As a Registered Nurse, you will become an integral member of the interprofessional team responsible for providing compassionate, patient and family centered care.
The ICU currently has 6 openings for the Fall 2020 Critical Care Course, for which MSH will pay your tuition and time. The is a full time opportunity with a maximum number of 6 candidates total to work in ICU.
The Critical Care Course is an opportunity for a Registered Nurse who is interested in working in the ICU to develop their knowledge and skills thereby assisting them in preparing for a career in this area at the Markham site. We are considering Full Time applications at this time.
Upon successful completion of the Critical Care Course, you agree to commit to a period of twenty-four (24) months of employment at Markham Stouffville Hospital in the ICU. If you resign during this twenty-four (24) month period or decrease your status (from full-time to part-time or casual) you will reimburse Markham Stouffville Hospital for the Critical Care Course tuition paid by the Hospital according to the following schedule:
6 Months or Less 100% of Tuition Paid
6+ to 12 Months 50% of Tuition Paid
12+ to 24 Months 25% of Tuition Paid
You specifically authorize the Hospital to deduct any reimbursement of Tuition from the wages then owing to you by the Hospital.
If you do not successfully complete the Program, you will not be eligible to work within the ICU. You will be transferred to another unit within the Markham site based on needs and your clinical experience and skills. In addition you will be required to reimburse Markham Stouffville Hospital the full amount of the cost of tuition.
About the role:
The Critical Care Unit at MSH is an exciting area work in, having recently launched the CCRT (Critical Care Response Team). The unit includes acute medical/surgical critical care and stepdown beds. It is open to Critical and accepts life or limb patients. Over the next year the department is expected to grow with the launch of dialysis within the unit. As the unit continues to grow, there are many development opportunities for all team members within the unit.
As the successful candidate, upon completion of the course you will practice in an environment where the emphasis is on professional practice and customer satisfaction. Using your clinical expertise, you will, in collaboration with the interprofessional team, be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive care plan for each of your patients in the delivery of individualized patient/family- centred care.
Ranges from $33.59 - $47.26 per hour.
Successful candidates will attend the full-time course September 8 – December 4, 2020 through George Brown College. Due to social distancing this course may be conducted virtually, with classes taking place 8am-4pm Monday – Friday online. To ensure success in the program, students must be able to attend all lectures and do 3-4 hrs of homework each night.
Upon successful completion of the Full Time Critical Care Course, the successful candidate must be available to work 12 hour day and night shifts and every other weekend, with flexibility to cover additional shifts as required. Please note schedule may change due to operational needs.
What you bring to MSH:
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- A minimum of 1 year of current full-time (or equivalent) acute care nursing experience
- Excellent physical assessment skills
- Current BCLS with the motivation to complete and maintain your ACLS within 6 months
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and continuing education within the last 2 years
- Demonstrated good attendance and performance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
- Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients and families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.
