Reporting to the Program Manager, Transit Management Systems, is responsible for providing quality and client focused technology support, data and business processes for the York Region Transit Branch; supporting the installations of hardware and software upgrades and new equipment configurations; providing system support for the development, implementation, operation and maintenance of specialized Intelligent Transportation Systems and related applications including supporting Transit programs; providing staff instruction on the use of the technology; participating in technology projects related to the mandated programs and systems; and developing and maintaining technology documentation manuals.
•Provides technical and field support for the operation and maintenance of hardware, software and technology infrastructure within the Branch in accordance with Federal, Provincial, Regional and Departmental policies and procedures.
•Inspects, tests, and undertakes preventative maintenance of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) equipment and responds to emergency maintenance calls; attends to defective devices, troubleshoots and repairs ITS equipment.
•Collects field data from various locations and facilities within the Transit infrastructure to support the TMS software.
•Reports and maintains systems data to ensure consistency and accuracy for TMS components, such as message library for variable message signs at bus stops and inside the buses.
•Maintains problem and change log.
•Documents application issues for submission to vendors/support organization and for issue tracking and resolution.
•Liaises with ITS Branch staff and Operations staff to ensure TMS integrity and security.
•Provides input to the Program Manager/Manager for the planning process as it relates to technology type assets.
•Attends seminars, conferences and training, as directed, and shares information regarding initiatives and other best practices with Branch and Department staff.
•Successful completion of a Community College Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Sciences or related field or approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Minimum two (2) years demonstrated hands on experience in analyzing and resolving technical problems, including project implementation and support, and networking design and support, for Intelligent Transportation Systems such as Computer Aided Dispatch/Automatic Vehicle Location system (CAD/AVL), Automatic Fare Collection system (AFC), Transit Signal Priority system (TSP), Passenger Information System (PIS), and Scheduling system.
•Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license and free of any serious offences under the Highway Traffic Act and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
•Demonstrated knowledge of systems development processes using databases and programming languages.
•Knowledge of transit and/or transportation industries.
•Demonstrated knowledge of PC configurations, networking concepts (LAN/WAN) and Client-Server application architecture.
•Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration and personal ownership.
