Description

The WARD summer student will join the HEART lab at the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital in conjunction with the University of Toronto and Ryerson University. The intern will work under the mentorship of Dr. Fiona Moola. The HEART lab is dedicated to the production and dissemination of knowledge through the use of the arts. The incoming WARD intern will partake in a number of different research tasks. These are described below.

  • The WARD intern will assist with a current study on the health care experiences of visual minority parents and caregivers of children with autism. In particular, the WARD intern will observe data collection through observation with the research team and also participate in visual and interview data analysis. Small opportunities for interviewing will be provided
  • The WARD intern will assist with data collection for the ARTS EXPRESS study. This will consist of four to five interviews with parents and caregivers of youth with disabilities regarding their experiences in a visual arts program for youth with intellectual disabilities
  • The WARD intern will assist with a review of literature on the use of arts based research with Indigenous children with disabilities
  • The WARD intern will participate in a content analysis of disability representations in children’s storybooks
  • Compensation Details

    The program runs for 12 weeks from May 4, 2020 – July 24, 2020. Students will be paid $14.00 per hour based on a 37.5 hour week (full-time), less statutory deductions, including 4% in lieu of vacation and relevant statutory holiday pay. Students will be paid biweekly through payroll.

    • Interaction with clients, families and staff of the program, and other program’s staff throughout the organizations
    • Additional duties assigned as required

    Qualifications

    - outstanding GPA

    -enrolled in year 2 – 4 in a Canadian University undergraduate program

    - previous experience with children with disabilities

    - exceptional writer

    - experience in the arts, including a great appreciation for the arts

    - basic research exposure

    -exceptional interpersonal skills
