Position Title Professor, Mechanical and Electrical Technology Engineering (2 Positions) Competition # 260-19 Department Technology and Visual Arts Campus Barrie Classification Academic Salary Range $65,250 - $113,115 Status Full-time Effective Date December, 2019 Position Overview One position will be assigned a fall/winter rotation and one position will be assigned a winter/summer rotation but teaching assignments may be changed by the Dean/Associate Dean and occur in any of the three semesters.
We are seeking two full-time Professors for the Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Technology programs with an opportunity to also teach in the Computer Studies programs. As a faculty member at Georgian College you will have the opportunity to apply your passion for teaching and share your rich industry experience by creating a supportive and effective learning environment which allows students to achieve their full academic potential.  You will be a member of a dynamic team of interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary faculty supporting curriculum development, course delivery and industry-led and applied research projects in advanced and smart manufacturing. Duties include but are not limited to:
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver a wide variety of courses in our Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology and Computer Studies programs
  • Evaluate student progress / achievement
  • Maintain subject expertise through professional development, contact with industry, other educational institutions and/or professional bodies 
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment
  • Incorporate a variety of learning / teaching strategies and technologies to meet student needs
  • Participate in portfolio / academic / campus and college-wide activities as required
  • Participate in course / curriculum revision, course / program revision and renewal activities
  • Develop alternative delivery strategies, and online course development and teaching, as required
  • Detailed descriptions of responsibilities, are defined in the classification definition of professor in the Academic Collective Agreement

Qualifications Required:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in mechatronics engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field
  • A Master’s degree in mechatronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field
  • Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario
  • A minimum of five years’ related practical experience in robotics, electronics, industrial automation or     computer / software engineering environment
  • Experience in manufacturing processes such as automation fabrication environment, advanced programmable logic, industrial pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Knowledge and understanding of smart manufacturing (Industry 4.0) technologies development and implementation
  • Familiarity with Ontario safety regulations, industry standards and current work practices
  • Previous teaching experience at a postsecondary level and/or adult training experience
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to contribute to, and work in, a positive team environment and to foster the same in their students
  • Commitment to life-long learning
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations
  • Computer literacy: Microsoft Office Suite, computer aided design (CAD) software, electronic and electrical simulation software, computer programming software
Additional Asset / Preferred:
  • PhD preferred in a related field
  • Experience with integrated systems and information systems security
  • Experience with, and knowledge of the Microcontrollers, Electronics (e.g. IoTRFID, IP enabled devices, etc.)
  • Experience with designing, building, testing, and maintaining software
  • Experience with data warehousing, data mining, and data analytics
  • Experience with online course development and / or online teaching
  • Experience in some or all the following: curriculum development, universal design for learning, a variety of delivery strategies, adult learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies
  • Computer literacy: Learning Management Software (i.e. Blackboard) and Student Information Systems
  • Ability to effectively integrate new technology into teaching and learning
  • The ability to teach in more than one subject or program area
  • Siemens Mechatronic Systems Certification Training
