Position Title Manager, Architectural Services Competition # 289-19 Department Facilities Management Campus Barrie Classification Administrative Salary Range $84,030 - $105,037 Status Full-time Position Overview

Reporting to the Associate Director, Facilities Planning and Sustainability, incumbent is responsible for the leadership, development, administration and implementation of Facilities Management objectives as they relate to the management of building and renovation projects College-wide. The role combines lead project manager duties with the technical expertise to develop, maintain and consistently apply design standards across college projects and maintain accurate project and building records. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Managing the scope, schedule, and budget of assigned projects from initiation to close-out
  • Collaborating with user groups, Architects, Engineers, Consultants, and Facility Management staff, etc. for purposes of designing buildings or large renovations to existing spaces College-wide
  • Participating in site meetings on large capital projects, meeting with contractors, architects and engineers to review work proposed or in progress and follow up on items
  • Organizing down-times to minimize disturbance to occupants
  • Reviewing work in progress, correcting deficiencies, giving instruction/clarification
  • Responsible for preparing and tracking project budgets and authorizing payments and also for contract administration
  • Providing stakeholders with constant updates in work progress
  • Coordinating with other managers within Facilities Management, Information Technology, Security and Health and Safety as appropriate to their area of expertise
  • Developing drawings, specifications and tender packages for projects
  • Tracking schedules and follows-up with action required to remediate deficiencies and deviations from schedule
  • Managing and updating the College-wide collection of facilities drawings and specifications
  • Retaining and organizing project records for design, construction and as-built documents and shop drawings
  • Coordinating and checking the submissions of other managers within Facilities Management in order to provide correct and sufficient information for government reporting
  • Managing a complicated College-wide database report used by government in the delegation of funding for the Colleges Facility Renewal program
  • Ensuring Facility Condition Index records remain current within VFA database and are updated at project close-out
  • Providing staff with the appropriate level of training in order to record information accurately
  • Leading the development and maintenance of architectural design standards for offices, laboratories and classrooms, interior finishes and furniture
  • In consultation with other managers in the Facilities Management department, leading the development and maintenance of design standards for all disciplines
  • Ensuring consistent application of design standards on all college projects
  • Researching and evaluating products to determine appropriateness
Qualifications
  • Successfully completed a three year postsecondary diploma/degree in Interior Design or Architecture or Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer or Architect in Ontario is considered an asset
  • Certification in Project Management (PMP) is preferred
  • A minimum of seven years’ experience in (multi-million dollar) project management
  • Proficiency in Microsoft computer programs and the ability to work in a Financial Information System such as PeopleSoft
  • Experience working with various computer programs related to government reporting
  • Demonstrated supervisory and budget management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven ability to work within building codes and bylaws
  • Demonstrated organization and planning skills
  • Ability to effectively lead a team
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to make day-to-day decisions as required
