Position Title Community Integration through Co-operative Education Program (CICE) Learning Facilitator - Owen Sound Campus Competition # 01- 20 Department Liberal Arts and Academic Quality Campus Owen Sound Classification Support Staff Salary Range $31.06 Hours per week Up to 24 hours per week Status Part-time (Regular) Position Overview

THIS IS A LESS THAN 12 MONTH POSITION. Terms and conditions of employment are as outlined in the Support Staff Collective Agreement.

 
The incumbent to this position will work mid August to mid May. The hours of work could vary according to the scheduling of courses for the students in the program and the incumbent will be required to work non-traditional hours.
 
Reporting to the Business Manager the incumbent’s primary role is to provide direct assistance to CICE students to support teaching and learning activities and to ensure a smooth transition into college / academic life and maximize CICE students’ potential in postsecondary education. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Attending classes with the CICE student(s) to provide classroom support with note taking, lab support, group work facilitating, and advocating for their concerns
  • Meeting weekly with the CICE student(s) to support each scheduled class by preparing and supplementing class material
  • Setting up and assisting the student in the use of adaptive technologies equipment when needed (in and out of class)
  • Modifying course outlines, tests / exams and assignments to meet individual student needs, develop study strategies, review questions or project outlines and forward to faculty; invigilating tests and exams
  • Promoting inclusion of CICE students in the classroom and in college social activities
  • Referring students to access appropriate college resources (Financial Aid, Centre for Students with Disabilities, lockers, books, etc.)
  • Assisting in conducting admission interviews, student recruitment, student orientation sessions (providing tours) and/or information sessions
  • Using and supporting a variety of learning strategies, teaching and learning principles, and a variety of teaching strategies to assist and promote student learning
  • Assisting with admissions, orientation, and supporting of fieldwork placements as required
  • Working with student services to establish support required (i.e. adaptive technologies, peer tutoring, testing services, etc.)
  • Working collaboratively as part of the CICE Program Team
Qualifications
  • Successfully completed a two year postsecondary diploma in a relevant field of study that may include, but is not limited to Developmental Service Worker
  • CPR / First aid certification is required
  • Three years’ experience in a postsecondary educational and /or tutoring environment, working with individuals with special needs, developmental challenges, and / or significant learning challenges
  • Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and adaptive technologies to assist students with their school work
  • Proven time management and organizational skills to set priorities and handle multiple responsibilities with tight deadlines simultaneously
  • Ability to make decisions and problem solve to determine and provide alternative options / solutions to the students
  • Proven communication (written & verbal) and critical thinking skills to advocate for the CICE students concerns
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to travel locally for field work and student recruitment
  • Special Needs training or a certificate in Special Needs would be considered an asset
