Durham College is seeking a proven leader with excellent organizational, leadership and client service skills to join a team of professionals in the Facilities Operations department. Reporting to the Director, Facilities Management, the Manager, Facilities Operations, supervises the operations and maintenance of all college and university facilities. The incumbent is responsible for the supervision of department staff, oversees required and preventative maintenance of operation systems, receives and reviews contractor tenders and negotiates terms, and develops for review processes and standards related to facilities operations. The incumbent works with the Director, Facilities Management, to develop and implement capital projects related to building operations, systems, and space planning.
The Manager, Facilities Operations will supervise the daily activities of Facilities Operations staff, as well as contractors to ensure all facilities operations for the college and university are working efficiently and effectively. They will establish and implement preventative maintenance programs along with cost effective changes to facility operations through the review of processes, procedures and legislation. In addition, the incumbent will provide leadership and direction to all staff, determining priorities and work assignments. This position will also be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all staff and contractors. Working with the Health & Safety Officer, the successful incumbent will work on developing procedures specific to operations. In addition, they will be responsible for overseeing projects involved with designated substances, as well as coordinating site meetings and tendering of projects with contractors and consultants.
This position is responsible for providing input in capital planning initiatives. They will work with the Director, Facilities Management to prioritize and address deferred maintenance. The Manager, Facilities Operations will ensure appropriate communication and direction to campus security with respect to access requirements for vendors, contractors and sub-trades. They will also communicate disruption of services appropriately and as per the requirements of the A.O.D.A. The successful incumbent will also be responsible for meeting and consulting with city building inspectors and local fire officials.
The successful incumbent will possess a minimum of a three year diploma/degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering Technology, or a combination of a licensed trade and Building Operations Management certificate. A minimum of five years progressive management experience in facilities operations or building maintenance is required. The incumbent will have sound knowledge of applicable building, fire and safety codes, acts, regulations, and standards. In addition, they will have basic engineering practice knowledge such as, WHMIS, the Elevating Devices Act, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. They will also have knowledge of computerized maintenance and environmental systems. The successful incumbent will possess excellent leadership, client and services skills. They will be efficient in the use of CMMS, as well as have the skill set to analyze and solve problems in consideration of a variety of stakeholders.
