Academic Part-time Position

Responsibilities:

Part-time faculty members are required to teach in the Construction Project Management Graduate Certificate Program in the School of Engineering & Technology in the 2020-2021 academic year with semester start dates of May 10, September 8, and January 7.

Areas of instruction include:

  • Construction Materials & Methods, Ontario Building Code
  •  Quantity Takeoff, Cost Estimating & Bidding
  • Planing & Scheduling, Risk, Quality, Lean Construction
  • Job Site Management, Construction Safety
  • Architectural Drawing with Revit

Candidates must be able to teach three to six hours weekly. The courses will be delivered in both daytime an evening hours with some potential for Saturday teaching. The teaching location for this program is at the Waterloo Campus.

  • Ensure student awareness of course objectives, instructional approach, and evaluation systems
  • Carry out regularly scheduled instruction according to the format prescribed for the course, including as appropriate, classroom, computer-assisted lab lessons, teacher-led, and other instructional techniques
  • Evaluate student progress/achievement, assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the students’ work within the assigned course, and maintain records as required
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment which supports the diversity of students’ cultures, educational backgrounds, and learning styles
  • Support students in the use of the Learning Management System (D2L), as well as maintaining course materials within this system
  • Collaborate and build relations with other program faculty

Qualifications:

  • Degree or Ddiploma in an Architectural, Construction, or Building Engineering field
  • Minimum five years years of industry experience related to the instructional topics
  • PMP or Gold seal certification is an asset
  • Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience of computer systems (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite) and educational technologies (e.g. D2L) is preferred
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to contribute to and work in a positive team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to learners and foster a positive learning environment among diverse student populations including international students and students requiring accommodation is an asset
