Job Summary

Under the direction of the District Manager, the Manager, Recreation Facility is responsible for managing multi-purpose Recreation Facilities and Programs.  This may be a combination of indoor ice pads, indoor/outdoor pools, gymnasium, fitness centre, recreational programs, meeting rooms, satellite facilities, and leased space.  The Manager provides leadership in the delivery of recreational activities, facility operations and community development initiatives to a team of full and part time staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

The scope of responsibilities includes facility operation, recreation programs, memberships, drop-in programs, rentals, customer service, working with a variety of diverse organizations that support community development efforts, volunteers, and compliance with corporate policy and legislation.  Working within the established divisional budget and business plan, the Manager will develop facility operating plans to maximize public participation, operating revenues, as well as local community and business partnerships.  Liaising with elected officials, other departments and organizations are additional competencies required.  Quality assurance, health and safety, and a commitment to asset lifecycle maintenance and continous improvement are also expected of this position.  As a member of the division’s Recreation Manager Team, as well as the Facility Manager Team, there will be participation in a number of committees and project teams.  Ability to work flexible hours including evening and weekends is required.  Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

Note: Successful candidate will need to be prepared for increased mobility, with appropriate notice, in order to fill vacancies, provide developmental opportunities for staff and be responsive to future operational needs or to support the operational structure and its requirements.

Skills and Qualifications

• Recognized post-secondary degree or diploma in Recreation, Sports Administration Management or equivalent.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive work experience in managing multi-purpose recreational facilities and programs at the supervisory and/or management level.
• Demonstrated leadership, performance management, and team-building skills.
• Strong ability to effectively and efficiently maximize the use of human and financial resources to meet community and departmental needs.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, combined with excellent oral and written skills, and the ability to liaise effectively with the public, elected officials and outside agencies.
• Experience in community development initiatives, and establishing programs for at risk populations and developing unique community outcomes through inter-agency cooperation is an asset.
• Proficiency in computer software applications.
• First Aid/CPR; HIGH FIVE PHCD and QUEST 2 certifications are required for this position (or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of start date).
• Valid Ontario Driver’s License and travel between various City of Mississauga Facilities is required.
