The Community Engagement Team (CET) is a multi-agency collaborative funded by the City of Cambridge, Department of Human Services Programs. CET reaches out to and engages underserved Cambridge families from different cultural, racial, and linguistic backgrounds to promote their engagement in City and community resources and develop community leadership. CET also provides technical assistance and training to local agencies and community-based organizations on best outreach and engagement practices. The vision of CET is to embrace all families, provide the support they need to thrive, and encourage families to participate in shaping community life.

The Department of Human Service Programs (DHSP) seeks a CET Co-Leader with the vision and experience to lead the Community Engagement Team (CET) in outreach and engagement of underserved families in Cambridge. The CET Co-Leader has the overall responsibility for overseeing the CET’s multi-agency collaborative, and a part-time staff of up to 10. Working with CET staff and other city and community programs, the CET Co-Leader is responsible for helping to plan, implement, and oversee outreach efforts to connect underserved Cambridge families with young children to community events and resources, to encourage community leadership development, and support agencies in welcoming and engaging all residents.

This position is based at the Community Learning Center, a school for adult learners that annually serves more than 800 adult immigrants and other residents of Cambridge who need educational support in a variety of areas. The specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Facilitate and coordinate the completion of CET programming:
    • Chair 4-6 CET working groups and teams
    • Collect and review performance data with CET staff and CET membership
    • Participate in the CET Executive Committee
    • Oversee evaluation of CET programming
    • Communicate regularly with the CET Co-team Leader
    • Collaborate with CDD Community Engagement Manager
  • Oversee work of 8-10 part-time CET outreach workers with the support of full-time Program Assistants:
    • Plan and co-facilitate weekly outreach worker meetings including guest speakers and professional development
    • Plan, coordinate, schedule and follow up on the work of the outreach workers
    • Provide monthly one-to-one supervision sessions for 4-6 outreach workers
    • Respond to agencies’/schools’ requests for services of outreach workers
  • Provide supervision to CET part-time staff and day-to-day support to 2 full-time CET Outreach Worker/Program Assistants
  • Co-Coordinate CET full-time staff meetings
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the CET’s strategic plan
  • Oversee the CET’s Technical Assistance to agencies
  • Participate in city committees and task forces, develop collaborative relationships with agencies to support their outreach to underserved Cambridge families
  • Develop, manage and report on the CET budget
  • Participate in professional development
  • Play an integral role at the Community Learning Center (Parent Agency):
    • Co-lead the CLC’s Outreach Strategy Team
    • Assist advisors, as needed, in selecting appropriate support services for student referral
    • With advisors, facilitate opportunities for support service organizations to have contact with students as needed (e.g., staffing a table, vision screening, etc.)
    • Respond to advisors’ requests for CET outreach worker help for CLC students in need of outreach worker support
    • Participate in staff meetings
    • Participate in hiring processes
    • Participate in Coordinators’ meetings

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or related experience
  • Experience in program development and administration of community-based programs/initiatives
  • Experience conducting outreach to immigrant families and American-born Black families
  • Experience communicating effectively with non-native speakers
  • Experience working on issues concerning racial equity
  • Knowledge of and experience working with Cambridge programs and services strongly preferred
  • Five years or more of management experience, including supervisory experience
  • Commitment to participatory and collaborative decision-making


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must have sufficient mobility to travel between sites and to local meetings. Ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer, answer telephones and maintain multiple files. May require minimal lifting of up to 10 pounds. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: General office environment with air conditioning and fluorescent lighting. There will be frequent outside meetings with partner agencies, local organizations, and community groups.  

RATE: 61,078 annually (this is an 11-month appointment paid over 12 months) + excellent benefits
