(This position is initially open to full time, bargaining unit employees of the college)
The Work Integrated Learning Coordinator is the key liaison within the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts (SHTCA) who enables experience-based learning opportunities for our students. These valuable learning opportunities are facilitated through the incumbent by connecting students with the appropriate internal and external stakeholders and coordinating relevant systems and structures to ensure expectations are clear and outcomes are measurable.
The incumbent’s role is to be an advocate for Work Integrated learning by promoting these opportunities and fostering relationships with appropriate industry partners and internal stakeholders. The primary focus will be on coordinating on-campus Work Integrated Learning and in-industry experiences for all applicable SHTCA programs. The incumbent is responsible for planning, implementing and monitoring said experiences as well as implementing systems such as Magnet and Riipen to ensure students and employers are matched suitably. The incumbent is accountable for communicating between employers, students and faculty to promote both successful and immersive experiences. To facilitate on-campus Work Integrated Learning experiences, the incumbent will collaborate with the leadership team of SHTCA’s hospitality operations to ensure planning and implementation of the internal experiential learning opportunities.
  • Identify/develop WIL opportunities through marketing to employers and managing the ongoing relationships with external existing Industry partners through networking; on-site visits; attending industry functions; telephone solicitation; following up on supplied leads/referrals including the initial screening of suitability and capability of new industry partners
  • Recruit new employers for SHTCA programs by making cold calls, networking, mail-outs and engaging industry at conferences, meetings and other internal and external industry engagements. Ongoing communication with the industry throughout the year
  • Work with academic faculty to respond to any issues which may arise related to WIL and assure their resolution
  • Communicate regularly with faculty, Program Coordinators and students via phone, email and face to face meetings, to keep them informed and engaged
  • Recommend improvements and monitor the quality of WIL by providing feedback to internal and external stakeholders regarding the quality of experiential learning environments and the workplace readiness of students
  • Manage employer, student and other WIL data using Magnet Software and/or third-party software including data entry and troubleshooting technical issues as required
  • Acts as portfolio administrator in Riipen software and collaborates with faculty and Chairs to create project-focused experiential learning opportunities with industry partners
  • Develop and facilitate workshops / information sessions relating to WIL policies, legalities and procedures
  • Conducting class visits to inform and prepare students for WIL job searches through Magnet.
  • Respond to student queries and direct students on WIL paperwork and procedures
  • Responsible for providing service and support to employers, and ensuring compliance with Workplace Safety and Insurance and Board (WSIB) and Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD)
  • Assists with coordination of any Industry Partnership events that may result in increased experiential learning opportunities for students
  • Three (3) year diploma in Hospitality and Tourism Administration, Business Administration or equivalent combination of education and significant experience
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience within the Hospitality/Culinary industry preferably in the GTA
  • Experience in employment preparation (i.e. supporting the identification of career/employment goals, resume preparation, interview preparation etc.)
  • Sales, marketing, public relations or outreach/networking experience in order to identify and develop WIL opportunities
  • Highly organized and able to prioritize events, students, industry partners and faculty
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large case load while balancing other duties with deadlines and conflicting priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Experience, knowledge and understanding of working effectively in a diverse environment with the ability to be empathetic and patient towards the student population

Salary Range $31.37 to $36.42 per hour (Pay band H)
