In addition to teaching assigned courses, the successful candidate will be expected to:
• Use effective interpersonal communication skills with students, faculty, management and external partners
• Demonstrate interpersonal communication skills showing a sensitivity to intercultural communication
• Provide and promote a respectful and supportive environment based upon the principles of inclusion, equity and diversity
• Work effectively in a team–based environment
• Create a positive teaching and learning environment
• Use academic technology effectively to engage students and support learning
• Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes with a variety of approaches and techniques and provide regular feedback
• Use a variety of appropriate teaching/learning strategies
• Develop, revise and adapt appropriate learning resources and curriculum
• Critically examine learning materials and classroom instructional practice for discriminatory bias or barriers
• Provide academic support to students as part of regularly scheduled office hours
• Teach courses to all levels of students in the Recreation and Leisure Services program
• Contribute as a subject matter expert in recreation to support curriculum development and revision
• Remain current in knowledge of the field of Recreation and in instructional delivery methodologies
• Attend meetings, maintain student grades/assessments and participate in activities pertinent to faculty responsibilities
• Bachelor’s degree in Recreation and Leisure Services OR a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline plus a diploma in Recreation and Leisure Services
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the Recreation and Leisure Services sector
• Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching or training adults, with demonstrated teaching in Recreation & Leisure or related diploma programs and/or undergraduate programs
• Demonstrated understanding of Child and Youth Development, Community Development, Recreation Management and Marketing, and current issues/trends in Recreation
• Knowledge of adult education principles and the role of learning outcomes, instructional approaches and evaluation techniques to be used
• Experience in course development and program related applied research is an asset
• Proven ability to use a variety of teaching/learning strategies
• Demonstrated competency in written, oral and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated ability to develop learning materials and resources and deliver training and instruction for students
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to a changing environment
• Demonstrated ability to work within a team
• Demonstrated understanding of diversity/equity and inclusion to meet the needs of our diverse students, staff and members of the college community
