Position Summary
Part-time - School of Transportation
Centennial College’s School of Transportation is looking for engaging contract faculty to teach courses both theory in classrooms and labs within their Truck & Coach programs. Reporting to the Chair successful candidates will support students in reaching their learning objectives through engaging classes and labs, for students in apprenticeship placements and Diploma programs. These are part-time teaching positions for classes held days Monday to Friday and potentially Saturdays. Availability is minimum of one day per week (up to six hours). Note: Contract faculty assignments are based on demand/need which may vary each semester.
  • Use effective interpersonal communication skills with students, faculty, management and external partners or community members, showing a sensitivity to intercultural and gender communication
  • Provide / promote a respectful and supportive environment on the principles of inclusion, equity and diversity
  • Work effectively in a team-based environment, including collaborating on lab activities/maintenance
  • Use a variety of appropriate teaching/learning strategies, including on-line technology to enhance learning
  • Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes using a variety of techniques
  • Develop, revise and adapt appropriate learning resources for students
  • Engage students to create a positive teaching and learning environment
  • Critically examine learning materials and classroom instructional practice for discriminatory bias or barriers
  • Provide academic support to students through in class and online communications
  • Contribute as a subject matter expert to support curriculum development and revision
  • Maintain contact with relevant industry and professional associations
  • Remain current in technical knowledge and instructional delivery techniques
  • Maintain student grades/assessments records, participates in required pertinent meetings and activities
  • Truck & Coach Service Technician Certificate (310T) in good standing is mandatory, with hands on work experience (holding an Automotive Technician 310S license is an asset)
  • Experience working with/mentoring/training apprentices is preferred
  • Ozone Depletion Prevention Certificate in good standing is mandatory, ‘Train the Trainer’ is an asset
  • Minimum of 4 years progressive, current and relevant technical experience as Truck/Coach Technician on the technologies listed below:
    • current technologies that are found in trucks
    • systems including: air conditioning, work place practices, engines, fuels & electrical, drive trains, suspension / steering and brakes, and hydraulics
  • Demonstrated effective communication (written, oral) and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly articulate expectations, learning outcomes and evaluations to students
  • Demonstrated team player, ability to collaborate with other faculty on lab activities
  • Demonstrated understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion to meet the needs of our community
  • Certificate in Teaching of Adults or equivalent training is a preferred asset
  • Experience in course or learning materials development is an asset
