Position Summary
Applied Research Innovation and Entrepreneurship Services
(This position is initially open to full-time, bargaining unit employees of the college).
Reporting to the Executive Director of the Applied Research Innovation and Entrepreneurship Services (ARIES) department, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator is responsible for all marketing and communications activities within ARIES. The incumbent will create and publish the ARIES newsletter, write weekly success stories, update blogs and social media posts to spread the word about Centennial’s research activities to target audiences both internal and external to the College. In addition, the coordinator will be responsible for outbound communications to the various schools at Centennial about research engagement opportunities. This position will work closely and collaboratively with the College’s Marketing and Communication Department.
  • Creates and publishes content for web pages, social media, blog posts, and marketing collateral (e.g. brochures, view books, posters, and flyers)
  • Oversees the coordination of mailings, e-communications and other distribution strategies
  • Authors, edits and produces the ARIES newsletter and other communication pieces as necessary
  • Writes success stories to highlight successes in WIMTACH, ARIC, ACCEL and other initiatives.
  • Drafts presentations and speeches for the Executive Director of ARIES
  • Reviews and edits content created by others for marketing materials or websites
  • Participates in the coordination and delivery of in-reach and outreach activities, including the annual departmental flagship event and various conferences (e.g. OCE Discovery / RISES / MITACS / CICan, etc.)
  • Develops long-term strategic marketing & communications plan; determines key messages for targeted audiences, and develops resource and activity plans to achieve objectives
  • Ensures all marketing and communications materials are archived according to department guidelines
  • Tracks performance of targeted marketing and engagement tactics against objectives.
  • Supports the planning of departmental events and Entrepreneurship competitions
  • Additional duties as required
  • Three (3) year diploma/degree in Journalism, Corporate Communications, Marketing or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience in Marketing and Communications
  • Demonstrated experience in writing and editing
  • Demonstrated experience with social media platforms (e.g. Hootsuite, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Blogs) as it relates specifically to a communications role
  • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage several projects at once
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Photography experience and experience with InDesign / Photoshop software is considered an asset
