Centennial College is seeking a dynamic team-oriented Lab Technologist to support the academic program delivery for the Aerospace and Aviation programs. Reporting to the Chair, the incumbent will ensure that department academic programs adhere to established standards, policies, procedures and processes and are of sound curricular structure and quality. The incumbent will provide learning and program delivery support to faculty and students; maintain lab related inventories, equipment and supplies; maintain and repair lab equipment and fabricate instructional training aids. In addition, the incumbent will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility and collaboration towards supporting student success.
Note: Labs refer to electrical/avionics labs, composite/engine and ancillary shops, aircraft hangars, etc.
  • Assists to orient faculty and students to lab operations; demonstrates the appropriate use of equipment, supplies and services and provides training as required to faculty and students
  • Leads students in the performance of practical tasks, projects, exercises, to include demonstrating and enforcing safety procedures, assisting with student supervision in labs, and supporting lab learning outcome delivery as required
  • Assists responsible faculty member with practical evaluations and completes required student record keeping, including recording of attendance, assigned grades and sign-off of work sheets or shop reports to verify task/project completion
  • Participates in course/lab specific meetings, providing input and feedback in relation to tasks/projects, student performance, equipment & supply needs, etc.
  • Works with stores technologist, maintains, distributes and sets up lab related inventories, equipment and supplies as required; ensures safe storage, handling and disposal of supplies, equipment and materials
  • Maintains and repairs lab equipment and training aids as required
  • Conducts lab inspections, and implements and/or coordinates corrective action to ensure compliance with required policy, procedure
  • Creates/updates equipment operating instructions, safety manuals, etc. (e.g. reference guides) diagnoses and/or repairs equipment (where feasible) on-demand during lab sessions
  • Operates motorized equipment (i.e. forklift, delivery truck/van, etc.)
  • Pick-up and/or delivery of parts, supplies, equipment, as needed and performs additional duties as assigned
  • Two (2) year post-secondary diploma, with accreditation in aircraft or avionics maintenance or equivalent military training; a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working in the aviation field in a maintenance, repair and/or overhaul environment with working knowledge of aviation maintenance activities (aircraft and/or avionics systems related)
  • Knowledge and familiarity of standard aviation industry practices and the latest industry technologies
  • Knowledge of WHMIS with regards to the handling and storage of materials is essential
  • A valid class “G” driver’s license and vehicle access required; submission of clean drivers abstract/record is also required
  • Licensed to Forklift (will be required to complete training within probationary period if not licensed)
  • Proven problem solving and organizational skills; strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently
  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills (both verbal and written)
  • Proven ability to work without direct supervision and in team environment
  • Experience working with various computer software programs (Microsoft Office) including spreadsheets, word processing and inventory records
  • Strong service orientation in managing relationships; individually and with teams
  • Experience providing aviation related training a definite asset
  • Knowledge and understanding working in a highly diverse environment

Additional Information as Applicable 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (must be flexible to work the hours between 7:30 am and 8:30 pm to meet the needs of changing semester programming/schedules)

Salary Range $34.01 - $34.91 per hour (Payband I)
