Position Summary
Lab Technologist, Aerospace
Advanced Manufacturing & Automation Technology (AMAT)
Department School of Engineering Technology and Applied Sciences (SETAS)
(This position is initially open to full time, bargaining unit employees of the college)
The successful candidate will be required to provide technical trade related assistance in preparing PLC, robotics, electrical/ electronics, hydraulics and pneumatics labs for Aerospace / Automation & Robotics programs.
  • Use effective interpersonal communication skills with students, faculty, management and external partners or community members, showing a sensitivity to intercultural communication
  • Provide and promote a respectful and supportive environment based on the principles of inclusion, equity and diversity
  • Create a positive teaching environment and work effectively in a team-based environment
  • Contribute as a subject matter expert to support curriculum development and revision
  • Maintain contacts with relevant industry and professional associations
  • Remain current in technical knowledge and instructional delivery techniques
  • Assist in capital projects from purchasing, installation, to start-up of the equipment
  • Ensuring all systems are functional and operational in accordance with systems specifications
  • Maintaining lab equipment in a clean and safe working order, ensuring that all equipment is properly identified, tools are in working order, and any unserviceable equipment is identified
  • Under supervision, affix repairs to minor equipment as directed
  • Other activities as directed.
  • 3 Year Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance or Aerospace related program or 3 Year Diploma in Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering an asset
  • 3-5 years of practical experience in fault-finding/repair of electrical and aerospace systems and practical laboratory experience
  • Practical experience with software packages related to electrical engineering and aerospace systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the following areas: Electric Circuits, Electrical Motor Controls, instrumentations, Digital Electronics, and Electronic Devices.
  • Proven Canadian industrial electrical working experience in customer or technical support on motion control drives such as Variable Frequency Drives, PLCs, and electrical devices.
  • Demonstrated relevant technical experience in electrical wiring, designing, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of control systems
  • Demonstrated competent written, oral and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team
  • Demonstrated understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion to meet the needs of our diverse students, staff and college community

Salary Range $31.06 to $36.06 per hour (Payband H)
