Position Summary

Cyber Security Analyst

(This position is initially open to full time, bargaining unit employees of the college)

Reporting to the Manager, IT Security and Compliance, the Cyber Security Analyst (CSA) provides, planning, implementing, operating and monitoring security measures to protect systems, end-user’s workstations and mobile devices, networks, telecom and data and technical support. The CSA is responsible for effective 24x7 security information and events monitoring (SIEM) system, managed network firewalls, intrusion prevention services (IPS), antispam and antimalware, data leakage prevention and security monitoring of the affiliated with the College IT services supply chain such as the cloud service providers.
The CSA will work with the ITS technical teams to plan, implement and integrate security measures into IT environments and ensuring their effectiveness Under the direction of the Manager, IT Security and Compliance, the incumbent will work as required on other cyber security related activities such as identity and access management, cyber risk management and reporting, vulnerability assessments, IT security compliance reporting, user security awareness and education, IT systems and services disaster recovery.
Cyber Security Operation and Monitoring
  • Enforcing compliance of ITS operation with cyber security policies, procedures, risk management processes and privacy laws and regulations.  
  • Provide system administration and monitoring for Security Information and Event Management, Intrusion Prevention and Threat Intelligence systems.  
  • Conduct security monitoring activity compliant with FIPPA, regulations and industry standards.
  • Analyze and decipher information from multiple systems to identify the cyber event and promptly alarm through reporting chain.
  • Provide regular security analytics reports for management review with identified risks, identities, threats and system vulnerabilities along with recommended remediation actions
  • Perform security monitoring and traffic/data analysis.
  • Provide authorized response to security events commensurable to the identified treat.
  • Participate as required in conducted forensic analysis.
  • Collect and preserve the legally acceptable evidence of the malicious activity.
  • Work with law enforcement agencies when required.  
  • Have ability of diverse device and operating system configuration.  
  • Customize the programming language code of security tools, including but not limited to Power Shell, Python, Java, C++, Bash, VB, SQL, etc.
  • Work with vendors in identifying cyber security issues, risks and gaps due to changes in laws regulations, contracts, in the design of system architecture, configurations, changes in support personnel and/or operating procedures or disaster recovery.
  • Responsible for monitoring user identities, privileges and authorized access to systems.
  • Work with COLT and Faculty to facilitate security awareness training to employees and/or end-users.  
  • Responsible for resolving all escalated helpdesk service calls related to security events.


Projects Coordination, Research and Development  

  • Coordinate IT Security project planning, implementation, control and monitoring. Monitor project progress and report back to the project manager when assigned. 
  • Assist the Manager, IT Security and Compliance to: identify cost effective cyber security solutions to address the College’s needs; develop cyber security policies and procedures; securing IT environments on premise and in the cloud, provide compliancy reviews, feedback and recommendations.
  • Assist in security and compliance reviews and assessments as assigned by the Manager, IT Security and Compliance.
  • Conduct development of programming customized code required to improve security controls efficiency and effectiveness.


Technical Service and Helpdesk Support

  • Respond to cyber security incidents logged by the helpdesk, provide resolution, communicate progress with end user and IT staff, update incident log and ensure proper closure of the incident.
  • Provide technical support, advise and awareness on cyber security to IT staff, Helpdesk and end users regarding malware protection and prevention, systems security architecture, user access authentication and authorization, secure device configurations, protection of the data at rest and in transit, secure communications, cyber security of IT systems on premise and managed by third parties.
  • Provide technical support on cyber security to IT staff and end–users during the implementation of a projects.
  • Act as single point of contact and subject matter expert for any assistance related to security of IT systems, network, data and end-user devices.
  • When assigned by the Manager, IT Security and Compliance, provide IT technical support during main College events.
  • 4 year Degree (e.g.BSc) in Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • CISSP by ISC2 certification in a good standing an asset
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in:
    • Security tools operation and management: SIEM, IAM, Firewalls, IPS, antimalware, antispam,
    • Providing security analytics, security reporting, cyber incident handling,
    • Systems administration, database administration, Directory Services, Microsoft, UNIX/Linux Operating Systems, Apple iOS/OSX, Android, scripting languages ,code design and programming, collaboration tools, video conferencing, LAN /WAN/ MAN/ WiFi Networking, Mobile technology platforms and telecomm.
  • Experience working on security controls projects implementation and skilled in project coordination.
  • Experience working with Client Services and Helpdesk.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills in order to work in a large client orientated working environment.
  • Physical ability to move computers and other IT equipment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal development and upgrading of technical skills through business activities.

Salary Range $39.82 to $46.18 per hour (Payband K)
