Position Summary

(This position is initially open to full time, bargaining unit employees of the college.)
 
Reporting to and working in collaboration with the Manager of Athletics and Recreation, the Coordinator is responsible for the safe and professional operations of the Morningside Fitness Centre, which includes a strength & conditioning studio, and fitness space. The successful incumbent will plan, promote and evaluate a broad based active recreation program that includes intramural, instructional, recreational, and extramural activities for both students and staff. Activities include hiring, training and assigning work to work-study students, games officials and sports convenors; orienting and training campus recreation staff, overseeing staff schedules, rental bookings, registration etc. This role will have annual budget accountability to promote and ensure the health and safety of the facility.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate a broad-based active recreation program that includes Intramural, Instructional, recreational, and extramural activities for students and staff
  • Hire, train and assign work to work-study students, games officials, and sports convenors
  • Orient and train fitness instructors and personal trainers
  • Oversee staff schedules, client registration and payments
  • Develop and monitor requirements for annual budget
  • Purchase equipment and maintain inventory control of sports equipment
  • Ensure proper maintenance of gym and equipment
  • Promote activity, through use of websites and social media etc.
  • Report on progress (such as annual participation statistics)
  • Updates policy & procedure and communicate to impacted employees, students and participants
  • Assist with the Colts Summer Sports Camp program, planning and delivery
  • Coordinates partnership with U of T Scarborough for student intramurals and Toronto Pan Am Centre access
Qualifications
  • Minimum two (2) year diploma/degree in Sport Management, Recreation Facilities, Leisure Studies, Physical Education/Kinesiology or equivalent
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience organizing and delivering league sport/recreational tournaments
  • Minimum three (3) years practical experience in the operation of a recreation facility
  • Broad based knowledge of sport rules and apparatus set up requirements
  • Experience in the operation of sport camp and/or work with at risk youth an asset
  • Current First Aid, CPR and AED training certification required
  • Experience successfully working with and coordinating event volunteers
  • Excellent written and oral/verbal communication skills
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Availability to work evenings/weekends and in shifts when required
  • Access to a vehicle for Campus and team travel
  • A valid “G” license required
  • Thrives in working in a highly diverse environment
