Under the direction of the Manager of Enforcement and Compliance, the Development Inspector will actively participate in environmental and construction compliance initiatives and community liaison outreach within TRCA’s jurisdiction. The position entails compliance monitoring of TRCA permit sites and public inquiries under the Authorities regulatory permitting processes. The Inspector will closely liaise with other TRCA business units, including planning, engineering and ecology staff, and maintain communications with partnering agencies, the development community, consultants, contractors, special interest groups and stakeholders, and maintain accurate records and reports. The Development Inspector will play an important supporting role for Enforcement Officers in the Authority’s objectives to prevent, eliminate, or reduce the risk to life and property, and to encourage the protection, enhancement and enjoyment of our natural systems.
NOTE: Hiring at TRCA is contingent on clearance of Vulnerable Sector Screening. Candidates will be asked for screening only where they have been selected as the leading candidate.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Resource Management, Environmental or Civil Engineering, Planning, Landscape Architecture, CET, Resource Management, and/or related discipline.
- Eligible to qualify for appointment as a Provincial Offences Officer with clean criminal background check.
- Two (2) years of experience related to major tasks.
- Experience with complex site plan comprehension, best management construction practices, construction methodology, environmental controls.
- Experience in conducting grading and development inspections with demonstrated interpersonal and negotiations skills and ability to manage conflict or volatile situations.
- Experience with Conservation Authorities Act, Section 28 and provincial land use planning an asset.
- Knowledge of ecological principles, including ecosystem management, impact assessment, restoration and mitigation techniques.
- Possess good judgement and consistent and effective decision making abilities.
- Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills, and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
- Excellent time management, service delivery and customer service skills.
- Able to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Proficient in the use of computers.
- Ability to obtain valid First Aid and CPR certificate.
- Valid Ontario G driver’s licence.
