|Title||Return to Work Specialist (Contract)|
|Position Overview||Working in close liaison with the Return to Work Supervisor, the incumbent coordinates accommodations and return to work of employees with physical restrictions and/or functional limitations into the Seneca workforce. Using expert knowledge of accommodation strategies, legislated requirements, individual needs, medical restrictions and job demands analysis, the Specialist advises and assists employees and management regarding options and resources for employees with temporary or permanent disabilities, in or entering the Seneca workforce, or returning from Short Term Disability (STD), Long Term Disability (LTD), or Workplace Injury. The Specialist provides case monitoring and follow-up to ensure benchmarks are met.|
•Manages both non-occupational and occupational case files by researching and gathering relevant materials, and by liaising with employees, managers, union representatives, internal HR personnel and third party service providers to facilitate successful return to work strategies. Consults with and/or refers difficult or complex case files to the Return to Work Supervisor.
•Leads accommodation/ Return to Work meetings to facilitate solutions and plans for absence, accommodation, and accessibility cases.
•Oversees Long Term Disability cases and provides regular reviews to identify safe return to work options.
•Reviews employee’s medical records by assessing the physical restrictions and/or functional limitations for accommodations in a timely manner.
•Drafts, maintains and monitors return to work and accommodation plans and case records.
Planning and Policy Review
•Arranges for work site assessments, physical and cognitive demands analysis and on the job disability management coaching.
•Oversees the day-to-day aspects of the Accommodation policy and program for applicable cases.
•Recommends improvements in the design of sick leave and disability management programs and early intervention strategies.
•Ensures that stakeholders meet benchmarks or that plans are reassessed and modified.
Training and Development
•Maintains up to date knowledge of current developments in occupational health and wellness; accommodation and disability management; and emerging trends and standards in absence management, accessibility, healthy workplace, and mental health.
•Contributes to establishing and maintaining reference materials, training materials and resources for the Seneca community.
•Maintains a network of resources and contacts within the field and attends training and development programs.
•Contributes to establishing, maintaining and improving the Return to Work programs and processes.
•Promotes positive and effective team interaction between stakeholders.
•Works with external service providers on behalf of the College.
•Minimum completed four (4) year degree in Psychology, Occupational Health, Kinesiology, Nursing, or Human Resources. If education is in another field of study, state how it is related.
•Professional certification or registered professional status within disability management; completion, or working towards completion of NIDMAR Certified Return to Work Coordinator Certification (RTWC), or Registered Rehab Professional (RRP); or the Canadian Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (CARP).
•Minimum five (5) years recent experience and expertise in employee accommodation and return to work in a unionized public sector workplace.
•Experience applying Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and Standards.
•Ability to analyze and interpret medical information and identify rehabilitation/ accommodation options.
•Proven case management and facilitation skills including the ability to multitask and prioritize competing demands, creatively problem solve, and build consensus on solutions to complex and contentious situations.
•Knowledge of confidentiality and privacy issues related to personal health information and ability to interpret human resource and labour relations policies, collective agreements and related legislation.
•Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and software applications (People Soft, Parklane, Access, etc.)
•Well-developed interpersonal, customer service and communication skills (verbal and written) to interact effectively with multi-cultural/racial/able students, staff and the public are required.
