Position Summary

School of Advancement

 

The successful candidate in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences within the School of Advancement will be responsible for teaching courses in all programs at Centennial College.  The faculty member will participate in program and course development, course modifications, program advisory committees, Ministry accreditation, applied research initiatives, and on-going future program needs.

Responsibilities
  • Teach General Education and Liberal Studies courses, specifically in Psychology
  • Utilize a variety of effective teaching/learning and assessment strategies, which includes technology, co-operative learning and critical approaches to pedagogy.
  • Participate in on-going course design and revision.
  • Research, design, develop, and revise appropriate learning resources for students.
  • Apply critical understanding of language proficiency and special needs issues in the classroom.
  • Remain current in technical knowledge and instructional delivery techniques and participate in professional development including reflective practice.
  • Provide and promote a respectful and supportive environment based on the principles of inclusion, equity and diversity
  • Use effective interpersonal communication skills with students, faculty, management and external partners or community members, showing a sensitivity to intercultural communication
  • Provide academic support to students as part of regularly scheduled office hours
  • Contribute as a subject matter expert to support curriculum development and revision
  • Attend meetings, maintain records of student grades/assessments, and participate in meetings and activities pertinent to faculty responsibilities
  • Evaluate student achievement of learning outcomes using a variety of techniques
  • Critically examine learning materials and classroom instructional practice for discriminatory bias or barriers
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Social Sciences; Doctorate degree an asset.
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience at the Post-Secondary level
  • Experience in teaching one or more Psychology courses in the area of Foundations (FNED 193 or FNED 194) and/or Liberal Studies (PSY 102, SOC 302, or SOC 303), and/or General Education (GNED 106, GNED 129, GNED 135, or GNED 144) and/or Liberal Arts (GART 129, LART 401) at the Post-Secondary level
  • Experience in the design of course or learning materials development
  • Effective conflict resolution skills with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion to meet the needs of our diverse students, staff and college community
