Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Learning Innovation, Teaching Excellence and Academic Quality, the Director of Academic Quality leads in the development and implementation of specific academic services to schools and programs to ensure quality in new program development and major modifications to curriculum for the complete range of comprehensive academic programs offered by the College, both locally and internationally. Through expertise, consultation, advice and guidance, the Director leads and champions sound program and curriculum development processes to meet provincial regulations, standards, credential frameworks and policy directives, as well as national and international standards for current and relevant programming based on principles of adult education, and outcomes-based learning incorporating the best practices of universal design, to align with our College’s mission and vision. The incumbent will lead the Centre for Academic Quality as the delivery mechanism for the academic services to support program and curriculum development, academic renewal, annual and comprehensive cyclical program review, accreditations/external audits and academic quality monitoring.
 
The Director will work with the Office of Academic Partnerships and Pathways to ensure the integrity of credit awarded through articulations and institutional partnerships and with the Dean, Learning, Teaching and Scholarship around quality assurance as it relates to teaching excellence. The Director will work closely with the leadership teams of academic schools and service departments to meet widely variant programming and partnership needs regarding academic program quality and quality assurance mechanisms and is responsible for ensuring that program quality meets the rigour of external auditing bodies such as the Ontario College Quality Assurance Service CQAAP (College Quality Assurance Audit Process) and professional associations.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare the strategic and business planning for administration of academic services to schools and programs to ensure quality learning experiences
  • Engage as an active participant in institutional leadership, planning and management of academic support services and programs to align with the College mission and vision
  • Develop, implement and measure the effectiveness of processes and policy to support academic quality in program design, development and review
  • Provide direction for college program quality review processes and to academic schools
  • Direct the administration of program quality review processes, for designing the training for participating staff, and ensuring that the participants receive ongoing support from the Centre of Academic Quality staff
  • Provide leadership for external quality review events
  • Develop capacity in school management teams (Deans and Chairs) and provide expert advice and guidance for their program development and renewal projects and establish support services through the work of the Centre for Academic Quality staff (for program design and mapping, learning outcomes development, assessment and evaluation identification, integration of general education and essential employability skills requirements, preparation for accreditation panel processes, and negotiation of curriculum sharing and articulation agreements)
  • Oversee processes of validation and Ministry approval of programs
  • Provide leadership in the development of college degree programs from market research, to establishing the development process and tools, guidance of school teams and curriculum writers in the development of proposals that adhere to PEQAB guidelines, and oversight of degree project timelines and key liaison with MAESD and PEQAB review panels
  • Provides subject matter resource support to CQAAP Steering Committee and leads teams;
  • Provides leadership and strategic direction on quality assurance across the college with particular responsibility for ensuring that the college continues to maintain compliance with OCQAS and PEQAB quality assurance requirements, CQAAP standards, and the Framework for Programs of Instruction
  • Develop and implement a communication plan for service delivery that uses internal portal and web channels, broadcast messages and electronic sharing of templates and forms
  • Provides leadership to staff (administrative, support and faculty) through determining priorities, programs and schedules
  • Ensures the efficient and effective use of fiscal and other resources with the Centre for Academic Quality
Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in education or arts is required, with teaching or curriculum focus an asset
  • Nine (9) years’ progressive and related experience in teaching/pedagogy and curriculum development within a post-secondary environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge in and experience with the principles and procedures involved in academic program evaluation and quality assurance
  • Knowledge of provincial policy developments as they relate to quality assurance and teaching
  • Demonstrated experience that reflects an understanding of ongoing labour market data and analysis and its relationship to outcomes-based education approaches in higher education settings
  • Previous experience in Management and supervision of staff, preferably within a unionized environment
  • Strong coaching skills, including human resources management (recruitment, selection, performance management, discipline, etc.) preferably within in a unionized environment
  • Previous experience with academic research, and experience developing appropriate surveys, measurements, benchmarks and process tools
  • Demonstrated relationship-building skills and ability to work well with a wide range of constituents including leadership forum, deans, academic managers, faculty, support staff, partners and other educators
  • Strong written communications skills and excellent presentation skills
  • Intercultural communications skills and sensitivity
  • Strong skills in negotiation, influence and conflict resolution

Salary Range $98,722 - $ 131,627 (Payband 13)
