Position Summary
Human Resources Department
 
Reporting to the Manager, Compensation, the incumbent will be a key member of the Compensation team with responsibilities in both Compensation and Job Evaluation functions. With respect to Compensation, the incumbent has responsibility for performing academic salary calculations for the implementation of offer letters, step increases, and other adjustments to faculty compensation. The Compensation and Job Evaluation Analyst will evaluate Administrative, full time Support, and part time Support jobs as well as maintain evaluations within a database.
Responsibilities
  • Performs academic salary calculations in partnership with assigned Chairs
  • Calculates and or verifies starting classifications, initial starting salary steps, and maximum steps for Academic employees
  • Partners with Schools to ensure accuracy of all required information needed for a salary calculation and ensures compliance to Collective Agreement and local agreements
  • Investigates and resolves complex compensation/pay issues
  • Provides advice and guidance to academic departments with respect to academic compensation processes and systems
  • Performs job evaluation of all union and non-union roles
  • Provides academic and functional leaders with job analysis process and role evaluation consultation and expertise
  • Develops and maintains database of evaluation results. Performs analyses of database (quantitative and qualitative) and summarizes findings for key stakeholders
  • Acts as Management representative at classification grievance discussions with Union representative
  • Conducts presentations and training for employees on job evaluation process and opportunities for improvements
Qualifications
  • Three-year diploma/degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or equivalent
  • CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) or CHRP designation is preferred
  • Three to five years of progressive experience in Compensation
  • Understanding of and experience in job evaluation processes is required. Demonstrated knowledge of point-factor job evaluation systems, job evaluation concepts and methodology
  • Proven experience working with and interpreting collective agreements
  • A good understanding of the academic salary step calculation and experience with the Faculty Load and Compensation module of Banner would be assets
  • Proven research and analytical skills
  • Working knowledge of employment-related legislation as it relates to compensation including Employment Standards Act and the Fair Workplaces, Better Jobs Act, 2017 (Bill 148).
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel with ability to analyze spreadsheet data and high proficiency working with formulas and quick use of complex functions within excel
  • Strong relationship management skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to communicate with diplomacy and tact
  • Effective facilitator and experience in presenting to managers.
