Position Summary

Temporary Contract: August 2018 - March 2019
This position is responsible for developing and implementing outreach initiatives designed to encourage women to enter post-secondary programs leading to jobs not traditionally held by women, including technology and skilled trades. The incumbent will initiate strategies and approaches, seek new opportunities, and represent the College, and in particular the Schools/programs in which women are underrepresented, in developing relationships with partners directly associated with skilled trades and technology. The position will work with Deans, Chairs, faculty and staff in promoting the engagement of women in all programs – both development and delivery. The position will assist and promote in the development of an inclusive environment for all students, staff and management.
  • In conjunction with the Manager, Community Outreach, develops, and delivers outreach and engagement strategies encouraging women to access non-traditional careers and on increasing the percentage of women applying to and enrolling in post-secondary and apprenticeship programs, specifically programs in the School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science and the School of Transportation as well as programs such as Firefighter
  • Tracks and analyzes enrolment and application data at the local and provincial levels
  • Assists with the development of marketing materials to accompany outreach/access/engagement strategies
  • Develops targeted communication plans and seeking new and creative opportunities to market non-traditional programs to diverse groups of women.
  • Participates in career fairs and represents and promotes the College by preparing and delivering relevant presentations pertaining to women in non-traditional careers/programs to such audiences as: Women’s Groups, Youth-led Organizations, Adult education centers, Career Fairs, Industry conferences/trade shows, Educational conferences, Community groups, High Schools
  • Liaises with other Centennial depts. to promote non-traditional occupations. Participates and promotes non-traditional careers with the provincial and federal Skills – Ontario/Canada competitions.
  • Identifies sources of funding to assist women in non-traditional careers (bursaries, scholarships) for students through community organizations and partnerships and coordinates the development of this funding through Student Financial Services
  • Utilizes College media to assist with delivery of outreach and engagement activities
  • Develops, maintains and enhances relationships with community groups and secondary schools
  • Participates on college committees as required
  • May participate in the Program Advisory Committee (PAC) for new programs and strategies to engage women
  • Facilitates transitional events by in coordination with the Transitions department
  • As a role model for women in non-traditional careers and in conjunction with the Transitions department, develops transitional support mechanisms to provide peer support among the women enrolled in Centennial College programs
  • Assists with the outreach and engagement, coordination and delivery of the HYPE program
  • 3 year diploma or degree in one of the following: Human or Community Services, a Skilled Trade, Engineering, Social Work, Child & Youth Work, Motive Power or equivalent education and experience
  • Conflict management and mediation training or certification
  • Minimum 3 years progressive work experience in working with women seeking education or employment in non-traditional jobs. Experience gained from working in community, employment, education, and/or post-secondary settings
  • Related work experience in career advising required
  • Marketing and communications experience that includes public speaking and delivering multimedia presentations to large groups
  • Experience with the planning, delivery and support of large-scale events
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues facing women in non-traditional careers
  • Proven ability to develop and promote effective internal and external partnerships
  • Experience in creative problem-solving and conflict resolution
  • Awareness, empathy and sensitivity to the cross-cultural communication requirements of individuals and to the needs of a diverse student population
  • Proven ability to administer multiple projects and priorities with above average time-management and organizational skills
  • Must be able to use tact and diplomacy in sensitive situations and have the ability to deal with stress and work both independently and as part of a team, under extreme pressure with minimum supervision.

Salary Range $33.67 - $39.02 per hour (Payband I)
